Megafauna & Evolutionary Ecology

As emphasized by the lab's Assistant Professor of Geobiology and namesake Dr. Julia Tejada, the graphics should evoke a lush yet classically academic vision of the evolutionary ecology lab's chief research interests, among which is the now extinct Mylodon Robustus, colloquially known as the Giant Ground Sloth.

In order to arrive at life-sized depiction of this species and several others that were not only beautiful at scale but anatomically accurate to a point of rigor, I resolved to scaling and manipulating etchings and printed passages directly from archival texts by the pioneering paleontologist and Darwin contemporary Richard Owens, who's findings play a pivotal role in the lab's present-day research.

Ginko Leaf Design

Having already depicted three species of giant mammal in real scale, the client suggested we pivot to a more decorative design for this articulate stretch of semi-obstructed wall in the wet lab. The delicately lush and highly recognizable leaves of the Ginko tree, a common sight in Exposition Park, felt like a beautiful solution.
