The Fabrication Shop Turned Event Venue

The decades-long fabrication shop of Ilan Dei Studio is now a versatile creative hub for the eclectic arts community of Venice, CA.

Not only does the industrial space house two semi-permanent residents Chromasonic and Foodshop - who work in experiential lighting and pop-up dining, respectively - but it has also hosted events ranging from flea markets to speaking engagements.

The decades-long fabrication shop of Ilan Dei Studio is now a versatile creative hub for the eclectic arts community of Venice, CA.

Not only does the industrial space house two semi-permanent residents Chromasonic and Foodshop - who work in experiential lighting and pop-up dining, respectively - but it has also hosted events ranging from flea markets to speaking engagements.

1. Logo & Brand Development

A) The logo design selected by the client from a batch of early studies. This would be used to drive signage as well as print & digital layouts

B) Simple print studies for a standard business card and B1 flyer to explore the expanded feel of the selected logo

2. Size A2 Poster Studies

C) Three 18x24" poster study variants, using the artist roster and verbiage of a recently closed exhibition at Zeno Space titled "Intrinsic Blooms"

3. Signage Parameters
D) Front Entrance Sign - Mounted greeting sign above the small front entrance
E) Garden Entrance Sign - A sign doubling as a wayfinding aid, mounted to the side of the building yet visible from the front entrance. It's main purpose was indicating to visitors that the second entrance is through the alley (E2)
F) Modular Signs - A system of smaller, modular signs which conform to the layout of ZenoSpace’s existing grid of perforated, bolt-mounted and removable 2x4 foot yellow acrylic panels

4. Front / Garden Entrance Signs
D) A Jet-Cut Steel Sign, hard-mounted against a crudely-painted white field. After exploring different application media, the client gravitated towards the stark contrast of polished type against the raw, almost improvisational feeling of an unrefined band of paint, reflecting the space's industrial yet adaptable nature

5, 7. Modular Sign Display

F) Wanting to build on the existing display structure in front of the building, the client asked for a system of easily manufactured signs that could nest over-top it's 2x10 grid of 2x3' bolt-mounted panels (F3)

F2) The client also wanted a welcome plaque mounted overtop the bottom-leftmost grid panel, nearest the large garage-style entrance where guests often waited before an event

6. Site Map & Booking Page

G) The last crucial detail was a QR code engraved into the welcome plaque, so visitors could scan to see a labeled map of the space and an offer to book for private events, for which I also created the assets and layout
